Pace For A Cause: World Heart Day Run Brings Community Together at Dataran Merdeka

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Nov. 2 2025 – More than 150 runners laced up at Dataran Merdeka today for the Pace For A Cause Charity Run, organised by Yayasan Jantung Kongenital Malaysia in collaboration with Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Delta Athletics Academy. The event was made possible with sponsorship support from ZUS Coffee, MBG Fruitshop, and Asia Pacific Medical Devices, showcasing a strong multi-sector commitment to championing heart health in Malaysia.

The run, in conjunction with World Heart Day 2025, aimed to raise public awareness of congenital heart disease (CHD), the most common birth defect in Malaysia, while also promoting active lifestyles as a key step in heart disease prevention. Families, heart warriors, and supporters joined a vibrant morning of exercise and community spirit, rallying together to raise awareness for patients with heart defects.

Yayasan Jantung Kongenital Malaysia (YJKM) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the quality of life for children and adults living with congenital heart disease. Through advocacy and direct support, YJKM works with paediatric cardiac care providers and the community to ensure heart warriors receive continuous care throughout their lives.

Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur (PHKL) is one of the paediatric cardiac care providers that YJKM has had a long-standing relationship with, showcased by an MoU both parties renewed in 2024, to facilitate access to congenital heart care for patients with heart defects from underprivileged families. PHKL is one of the leading paediatric cardiac surgical care providers in Malaysia, with Consultant Cardiothoracic Paediatric Surgeon, Dr. Siti Laura Mazalan, at the forefront of advocacy for congenital heart disease.

“Congenital heart disease is the most common birth defect in Malaysia, and ongoing care makes a huge difference.” Dr Siti Laura shares. “Our involvement in this initiative reflects our ongoing mission to stand by heart warriors and their families at every stage of their journey.”

Reflecting on the event, YJKM Chief Executive Officer, Eric Tan Chin Zhia shares, “Over the years, we’ve seen the support and awareness toward congenital heart defects in Malaysia growing. Events like these help shine a light on patients with heart defects, and we are very inspired by the community rallying together today and deeply grateful to all our sponsors for this run.”

Registration fees for the run and funds raised through YJKM go directly toward supporting life-saving surgeries and treatment for children born with heart defects. Public contributions can be made to:
