Wira Jantung, a translation of “Heart Warrior”, to Malay, is a social media campaign to increase awareness of congenital heart defects in Malaysia.

Congenital Heart Defects (CHD)s are the most common birth defect in the world. In Malaysia, an estimated 5,000 babies are born every year with a heart defect. Despite how common it is in the Malaysian population, little is known about the reality of living with a heart condition that you were born with.

  • Not much is heard about the achievements of the children with CHD who grew up to be the resilient and strong individuals of today.
  • Not much is heard about the struggles of living with a heart condition that affects every aspect of their life – though this limitation is practically invisible.
  • Not much is heard about the stories of parents and family members of those with heart defects – their tales of love, sacrifice and patience.

For this year’s World Heart Day 2023, Yayasan Jantung Kongenital Malaysia (Malaysia Congenital Heart Foundation), in collaboration with patients support groups is launching the awareness campaign, “Wira Jantung” to increase awareness of patients born with heart defects in Malaysia.
